France / Bordeaux / Graves / Sauternes

Sauternes, located south of Bordeaux, is world-famous for its unique sweet wines. Dense fog rolls through the vineyards early in the autumn mornings, creating ideal conditions for producing noble sweet wines. Amidst this idyllic landscape lies Château Guiraud, one of France's most beautiful wineries. Since 2006, it has been owned by Robert Peugeot, Olivier Bernard, Stephan von Neipperg, and Xavier Planty. Château Guiraud

Château Guiraud, Premier Grand Cru Classé from 1855, is one of the most important estates of Sauternes and a pioneer of organic viticulture: since 2011 it has been the first Grand Cru Classé to be fully organically certified. The vineyards lie in a microclimate that promotes fog and humidity – perfect conditions for noble botrytis.

Sandy gravel soils over clay offer Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc ideal conditions to produce concentrated yet highly aromatic berries. Guiraud wines impress with opulent fruit, honey and spice notes, lively freshness and remarkable longevity. A Sauternes that perfectly combines tradition, purity and modern sustainability.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
