Description

France / Bordeaux / Saint Émilion

Château Bellevue Mondotte is a small gem, just 2 hectares in size, situated on the finest terroir of the famous limestone plateau of Saint Émilion. Gérard Perse, owner of several renowned wineries, including the Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Pavie, fell in love with this estate at first sight and acquired it in 2001. The vineyard faces south, at an altitude of 80 meters above sea level, and the average age of the vines is 50 years. The sparse soil and old vines produce very low yields of high quality. Michel Rolland, the cellar master, winemaker, oenologist, and consultant for around 80 wineries throughout Bordeaux, acts as an advisor.

Château Bellevue Mondotte

Château Bellevue Mondotte is a small, high-lying boutique estate in Saint-Émilion, directly on the steep limestone edge east of the village.

The tiny vineyard area, planted mainly with Merlot plus some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, is rooted in sparse limestone rock with a thin layer of clay – a terroir that favours low yields, high natural concentration and cool, saline minerality.

Precise manual work dominates in the vineyard: strict selection, canopy and yield management and harvesting in small crates. In the cellar, each parcel is vinified separately, with very gentle extraction and measured use of oak to balance density, tension and clarity.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
