Description

Germany / Baden / Kaiserstuhl / Breisacher Eckartsberg

Joachim Heger manages the family winery in the third generation together with his wife Silvia. It is a very ambitious VDP winery in terms of quality, cultivating its vineyards in the absolute top sites of the Kaiserstuhl. Among the private wineries in the Kaiserstuhl, it has the highest proportion of terraced and steep slopes. The rocky soils, with their low water retention capacity and the resulting deep-rooted vines, form a good basis for unique, salty, and mineral wines. The wines bottled under the name Dr. Heger are world-class. For years, the Burgundy estate has been recognized by Gault Millau as a five-star, world-class winery.

For generations, the Heger family has stood for the highest quality, sustainable farming and a clear, terroir-driven style that has made the estate a fixture of Germany’s top wine landscape.

Origin in Focus

Baden

Baden is Germany’s southernmost and one of its warmest wine regions, stretching along the Upper Rhine from Kraichgau to Lake Constance. The mild climate and varied soils – from loess and limestone to volcanic rock in the Kaiserstuhl – allow for a broad range of styles. The focus is on Burgundy varieties: Spätburgunder for elegant to powerful reds, Grauburgunder and Weißburgunder for juicy, balanced white wines.

The nine subregions, including Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg, Markgräflerland, Ortenau and Tauberfranken, show individual profiles, from mineral tension to a ripe, Mediterranean character.
