USA / California / Napa Valley / Stag's Leap
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars suddenly became known internationally when it beat well-known Bordeaux Grand Crus in the legendary Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 and took first place . Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970 by Nathan Fay, who was one of the first winemakers to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley. While tasting various batches of 1974 vintage, Nathan Fay decided that one batch, held in the large wooden cask numbered 23, was so extraordinarily beautiful and delicious that it should be bottled separately. The icon of the house was born and since then has only been produced in exceptional years.
