Description

Germany / Palatinate

Frank John is the oenologist and cellar master of the young, small family winery Hirschhorner Weinkontor. Together with his wife and two children, he cultivates the mere 3-hectare vineyard biodynamically. The John family produces a small, exquisite selection of wines – a Riesling, a Pinot Noir, and two sparkling wines made by the vintner. All wines are given ample time to ferment spontaneously without intervention and to age on the lees for a long time. The result is characterful, finessed, and well-balanced great wines of the old school with aging potential. The grapes for the Pinot Noir come exclusively from Palatinate vineyards with a high limestone content. This results in a clear, spicy, multifaceted Pinot Noir with depth.

Frank John - Hirschhorner winekontor

Frank John and the Hirschhorner Weinkontor are among Germany’s most renowned producers of biodynamic wine. In the historic tithe barn in Hirschhorn, wines are created with great craftsmanship, patience and a deep understanding of terroir. The John family works consistently according to biodynamic principles, harvests exclusively by hand and ferments the wines spontaneously in traditional wooden barrels. The result is elegant, finely structured and long-lived wines with exceptional balance. Rieslings and Spätburgunders in particular are considered the estate’s flagships and impress with precision, minerality and a clear, authentic style. Hirschhorner Weinkontor stands for wines that ideally combine tradition, sustainability and the highest quality standards.

Pfalz

Origin in Focus

Pfalz

The Pfalz is one of Germany’s largest and sunniest wine regions, protected by the Palatinate Forest and shaped by diverse soils such as sandstone, loess and limestone.

Along the German Wine Route, accessible, aromatic wines with Mediterranean flair are produced. Riesling is at the centre – from linear and citrus-fresh to juicy and powerful. Weißburgunder and Grauburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc and red varieties such as Spätburgunder and Dornfelder are also typical; a lively rosé and sparkling wine culture completes the picture.
