Description

France / Bordeaux / Pomerol

Château L'Eglise-Clinet was once often overlooked due to its low production, but in recent years it has been getting the attention it deserves. This is because the talented winemaker Denis Durantou, a direct descendant of the founder, focused on quality, and his wines are not only among the best in Pomerol, they even have the highest average rating in all of Bordeaux. In all of Pomerol, the only other wine with a similarly excellent rating is Petrus, which trades at about eight times the price. In early 2020, Noémie and Constance Durantou took over the mere 4.5-hectare winery from their late father. Their first vintage seamlessly follows on from their father's success.

Château L'Église-Clinet

Château L’Église-Clinet is one of Pomerol’s most cult and rare estates. Its small, perfectly located terroir on the plateau combines heavy, iron-rich clay with fine gravel – ideal conditions for Merlot and Cabernet Franc. These soils give the wines exceptional depth, concentration and unmistakable aromatic intensity. Under the visionary winemaker Denis Durantou, the estate became a fixture of the region; his philosophy still shapes the style today: strict selection, precise parcel work and vinification focused on purity, balance and depth. The wines show dark fruit, floral complexity, graphite-like tannins and enormous ageing potential. L’Église-Clinet is one of Pomerol’s most impressive and characterful voices.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
