Description
Description
France / Bordeaux / Pomerol
Château Le Pin was founded in 1924, but the 1979 vintage is considered the first Le Pin vintage. In that year, the Thienpont family bought the small 2.3-hectare winery with the goal of making wines that rivaled Château Pétrus in quality. They succeeded, as the 1982 vintage was already awarded 100 Parker points and drew the attention of discerning wine collectors to the winery. Le Pin is often compared to Pétrus due to their shared origin, quality, and high prices, but in reality, they are very different. Le Pin is more open, generous, and fruitier compared to the characteristically masculine and structured Pétrus. However, Le Pin is much rarer to find than Pétrus, of which six times the quantity is produced in an average year.
