Château de Sales

A historic jewel in the heart of Pomerol

Château de Sales is one of the most traditional and characterful estates in Pomerol. The imposing 16th-century manor house, surrounded by a spacious park, still conveys the charm of a historic family property – the château has been owned by the same family for more than five centuries, which is almost unique in Bordeaux.

With around 47 hectares, Château de Sales is also the largest contiguous estate in the appellation. The vineyards lie on the sandy and gravelly soils typical of Pomerol, with clay and iron components that provide ideal conditions for Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The house style is defined by elegance, balance and accessibility: less concentrated than some power-driven Pomerols, but refined, aromatic and silky. Vinification takes place traditionally in large wooden vats and concrete tanks before ageing in barriques, with careful use of oak to preserve Merlot’s charming fruit.

Today, Château de Sales stands for authentic, classically stylish Pomerol wines with great drinking pleasure and a signature that impressively reflects the estate’s long history and unique terroir.

Bordeaux

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
