Description

Germany / Pfalz (Palatinate)

The Wachenheim Riesling 2024 from the traditional Dr. Bürklin-Wolf winery impressively demonstrates how clear, elegant, and deep a VDP Ortswein (village wine) can be. The grapes come from selected parcels around Wachenheim, characterized by sandstone, calcareous marl, and cool air currents from the Palatinate Forest. This blend of warmth, minerality, and freshness creates a Riesling that is both invigorating and characterful.

In the glass, the 2024 vintage smells of juicy peaches, green apples, and citrus fruits, accompanied by delicate herbaceous notes, typical of the winery's biodynamic cultivation. On the palate, it presents itself as precise, lean, and clearly structured – with a lively yet never intrusive acidity and an elegant minerality that lingers long on the finish.

Dr. Bürklin-Wolf in Wachenheim an der Weinstraße is one of Germany’s most historic and renowned estates. Since its foundation in 1597, this family property has developed over generations into one of the world’s leading Riesling addresses. Today, the Bürklin-Wolf name stands for a style that consistently places origin, craftsmanship and precision at the centre.

As one of the first major German estates, Bürklin-Wolf converted early to biodynamic farming and is now certified by Biodyvin. Vineyard work is carried out with the utmost respect for nature and soil, with the clear goal of producing wines that authentically reflect their sites. The estate’s parcels include some of the Pfalz’s most important locations, including Kirchenstück, Pechstein and Gaisböhl.

Bürklin-Wolf wines are marked by deep minerality, great freshness and impressive longevity. From estate wines to Grand Crus, the range shows a clear, elegant signature that regularly receives top international scores. The estate is therefore one of the most important ambassadors of dry German Riesling.

Pfalz

Origin in Focus

Pfalz

The Pfalz is one of Germany’s largest and sunniest wine regions, protected by the Palatinate Forest and shaped by diverse soils such as sandstone, loess and limestone.

Along the German Wine Route, accessible, aromatic wines with Mediterranean flair are produced. Riesling is at the centre – from linear and citrus-fresh to juicy and powerful. Weißburgunder and Grauburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc and red varieties such as Spätburgunder and Dornfelder are also typical; a lively rosé and sparkling wine culture completes the picture.
