Description

Spain / Castile Leon / Ribera del Duero

Aalto's characterful wines regularly receive top ratings from Robert Parker, who also appreciates the wines in his private life. The high quality is not surprising - Aalto is a project by old master Mariano García, former cellar master of Vega Sicilia. The grapes mostly come from 40-80 year old vines from nine different villages, which give the wine its impressive depth and complexity. A small part comes from younger vines, which add freshness and fruitiness. In January 2022, the wine was named the best red wine of 2021 by the Spanish Association of Wine Journalists (AEPEV).

Aalto Bodegas y Viñedos

Aalto Bodegas y Viñedos was founded in 1999 by Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini with the clear aim of translating the essence of Ribera del Duero into powerful, elegant and modern Tempranillo wines. The estate farms around 130 hectares with more than 200 individual parcels across nine villages, whose different altitudes and microclimates create impressive stylistic depth.

The vines are exceptionally old – between 40 and 80 years – and produce small, highly concentrated Tinto Fino grapes from which the distinctive Aalto style emerges: deep, precise, finely spiced and exceptionally balanced.

Today Aalto stands for a modern interpretation of classic Ribera del Duero – wines full of power and elegance that set international benchmarks and rank among Spain’s most renowned.

Ribera Del Duero

Origin in Focus

Ribera del Duero

Ribera del Duero in Castile and León is one of Spain’s top regions for powerful red wines. At its heart is Tempranillo, known here as ‘Tinto Fino’, which ripens on high plateaus with large day-night temperature differences. The continental climate and calcareous, sandy-loamy soils produce deeply coloured wines with ripe fruit, firm structure and lively acidity. Stylistically, the spectrum ranges from fresh, fruit-driven Crianzas to complex, long-lived Reservas and Gran Reservas, often aged in oak. The result: character, concentration and elegance with excellent ageing potential.
