Description

Italy / Tuscany / Maremma

Viticulture in the Maremma, a former marshland only drained in the 1930s, has a very impressive, albeit young, tradition. Marchese Lodovico Antinori was one of the first to recognize the enormous potential of this region – he originally acquired the land with the aim of expanding the Ornellaia vineyards, but quickly realized that the geological conditions were much better suited for a new project. Here, in this Mediterranean climate, where a constant sea breeze blows, he cultivates classic Bordeaux grape varieties and produces world-class wines from them, the Supertuscans. The Biserno impressively demonstrates how perfectly this terroir is suited for wines with impressive aging and storage potential.

Tenuta di Biserno

Tenuta di Biserno, a renowned estate on the border of Bolgheri in Tuscany, was founded in 1995 by Lodovico Antinori, who became internationally known for his famous Ornellaia wines.

Originally, the vineyards were intended to become part of Ornellaia, but Antinori recognised the unique terroir and decided to start a separate estate project. Today, Tenuta di Biserno produces an impressive selection of Super Tuscan wines under the IGT Toscana designation.

The vineyard is located in the coastal Alta Maremma region, where the cooling influence of the Mediterranean can be felt. The soils, rich in limestone and calcium carbonate, provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, which have grown here since 2003. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel before ageing in French oak and in bottle.

Biserno’s flagship wine is Insoglio del Cinghiale, a powerful cuvée of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot, produced only in the best vintages.

Origin in Focus

Tuscany

Tuscany is one of Italy’s defining wine regions, known for Sangiovese and iconic appellations such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Mediterranean climate with sea breezes and diverse soils produces elegant, fresh wines with structure. On the coast, ‘Super Tuscans’ are also made from Cabernet, Merlot and other varieties. In addition to red wines, the region offers characterful whites such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Vermentino, as well as the traditional dessert wine Vin Santo. The result: tradition meets innovation – with clear terroir expression and great drinking pleasure.
