Description

Petrolo Galatrona 2021
Italy / Tuscany / Val d'Arno di Sopra

The Petrolo Galatrona 2021 is an outstanding red wine from Tuscany, produced by the renowned Petrolo winery. This wine is considered the estate's flagship and is produced exclusively from Merlot grapes from the single vineyard Galatrona-Feriale, which was planted in the 1990s with low yields.

Wine profile: Petrolo Galatrona 2021

Expansion: The grapes undergo more than 20 days of maceration and fermentation, with regular manual pump-overs to ensure a complete extraction of aromas and tannins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques, followed by aging in new and nearly new French oak barriques for approximately 18 months. During the first 8 months, the wine rests on its fine lees to develop additional complexity.

The estate lies in the Tuscan hills between Chianti and Valdarno di Sopra and is considered one of the region’s most exciting boutique addresses. On stony, poor soils of Galestro and Alberese at medium altitudes, it produces characterful Sangiovese and Merlot wines with tension and finesse. The vineyards are farmed organically, partly inspired by biodynamic principles, with low yields and consistent hand harvesting. Stylistically, the estate combines Tuscan spice and red cherry fruit with cool elegance, fine tannins and precise structure. The house icon is the single-varietal Merlot Galatrona – dense, profound and always balanced – accompanied by Sangiovese-based cuvées such as Torrione and individual single-vineyard bottlings. Despite the high concentration, oak use remains finely measured. Ideal for Tuscany lovers looking for authentic, site-driven wines with collector potential.

Origin in Focus

Tuscany

Tuscany is one of Italy’s defining wine regions, known for Sangiovese and iconic appellations such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Mediterranean climate with sea breezes and diverse soils produces elegant, fresh wines with structure. On the coast, ‘Super Tuscans’ are also made from Cabernet, Merlot and other varieties. In addition to red wines, the region offers characterful whites such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Vermentino, as well as the traditional dessert wine Vin Santo. The result: tradition meets innovation – with clear terroir expression and great drinking pleasure.
