Description

Italy / Tuscany

The Antinori family has been making wine for 26 generations, making them the ninth oldest family winery in the world. In 1900, Piero Antinori purchased several vineyards in the Chianti Classico region. His son Niccolo caused quite a scandal in Tuscany in 1924 by producing a Chianti from Bordeaux grape varieties. In 1966, Niccolo handed over the reins to his son Piero, who proved to be just as groundbreaking. Solaia was the first Italian wine to be named "World's Number One Wine" by Wine Spectator, while Piero Antinori was the first Italian to be named "Man of the Year" by Decanter.

Origin in Focus

Tuscany

Tuscany is one of Italy’s defining wine regions, known for Sangiovese and iconic appellations such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Mediterranean climate with sea breezes and diverse soils produces elegant, fresh wines with structure. On the coast, ‘Super Tuscans’ are also made from Cabernet, Merlot and other varieties. In addition to red wines, the region offers characterful whites such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Vermentino, as well as the traditional dessert wine Vin Santo. The result: tradition meets innovation – with clear terroir expression and great drinking pleasure.
