Description

Germany / Nahe

The Korrell winery on the Nahe stands for a modern, quality-oriented style and natural work in the vineyard. Rieslings are produced here with great precision, clearly reflecting their origin and grape variety. The 2023 Riesling is straightforward, fresh, and balanced – typical of the Korrell house style and the cool influence of the Nahe.

On the nose, classic Riesling aromas of green apple, citrus fruits, and ripe peach are present, accompanied by delicate herbal and floral notes. A subtle mineral impression adds extra tension to the aroma. On the palate, the wine is lively and clear, supported by an animating acid structure and juicy fruit. The balance between freshness, fruit, and minerality ensures an elegant, clean finish with pleasant length.

Wine journalist Stuart Pigott once summed it up succinctly: ‘Paradise exists.’ He was referring to the wines of exceptional winemaker Martin Korrell. Only a few years ago, Weingut Korrell was considered a well-kept secret among wine connoisseurs. Today, Martin Korrell shines as a rising star on the Nahe, and his wines have received numerous national and international awards.

Weingut Korrell is guided by a philosophy that can be summarised in three core ideas: authentic, approachable and sustainable. These principles are reflected not only in the wines, but also in the culture of the estate. The Korrell family strives to remain genuine and to present both their wines and their personality authentically. This authenticity is evident in their classic, purist wines, which are carefully perfected and refined.

Korrell’s philosophy can be summed up by the principle ‘less is more’. This means focusing on the essentials and giving the vines in the vineyard the attention they need. The focus is on Riesling, regarded as the grape variety that best represents Germany and the Nahe.

A remarkable step for the estate was the conversion to organic viticulture in 2023. This brought not only more greenery, but also significantly more manual work. The Korrell team is grateful for the hard work of their vineyard workers, who often operate behind the scenes and are essential to the estate’s success.

The personal favourite wine of the estate owner is Riesling Paradies, which represents a deep connection to the origin of the estate and its site in the heart of the Nahe Valley. For him, this wine is more than a drink – it symbolises gratitude and a bond with the history and heritage of Weingut Korrell.

Origin in Focus

Nahe

Nahe is a diverse wine region in southwest Germany, named after the Nahe river and shaped by exceptional soil diversity: slate, porphyry, volcanic rock, quartzite and sandstone often lie close together. This geological variety is reflected in a broad range of styles, especially in Riesling – from filigree and citrus-fresh to powerful and mineral-driven. Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Silvaner and aromatic varieties such as Scheurebe also impress with lively fruit.

Famous sites such as Hermannshöhle, Bastei and Felsenberg show the precision and depth for which the Nahe is known. Culinarily, Nahe wines pair excellently with fish, light meat dishes, regional cuisine and spicy foods – a region for explorers who appreciate finesse, diversity and terroir.
