The French négociant E.& M. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in Ampuis, a small village in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie Rôtie appellation, founded. Étienne accompanied 67 wine vintages in the Côte-Rôtie. His son Marcel Guigal took over the management in 1961 and made a significant contribution to improving quality. Marcel Guigal became internationally known in the mid-1980s thanks to the top ratings from wine journalist Robert M. Parker. He is considered one of the best winemakers in the world. His son Philippe is now the domaine's oenologist, and together with his wife Eve he represents the third generation in the family business. The vineyards extend over 20 hectares on the best steep slopes of the Côte-Rôtie appellation.
