The estate is located in Ampuis, in the heart of the northern Rhône Valley, on the steep slopes of the famous appellations Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Hermitage. The Guigal family is known for its dedication to the craft of viticulture and its passion for producing high-quality wines. The French négociant E. & M. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in Ampuis, a small village at the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. Étienne oversaw 67 vintages in Côte-Rôtie.

His son Marcel Guigal took over management in 1961 and played a major role in improving quality. Marcel Guigal became internationally renowned in the mid-1980s thanks to the highest ratings from wine critic Robert M. Parker. He is regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the world.

His son Philippe is now the domaine’s oenologist and, together with his wife Eve, represents the third generation of the family business. The vineyards cover 20 hectares in the best steep sites of the Côte-Rôtie appellation.
