Château Haut-Bages Libéral

Château Haut-Bages Libéral, 5ème Grand Cru Classé from 1855, lies in southern Pauillac close to Château Latour and benefits from deep gravel soils over limestone. This terroir gives Cabernet Sauvignon ideal conditions and shapes the wines with typical Pauillac structure, graphite and cassis notes and cool mineral tension. Merlot brings fullness and elegance to the cuvée.

Under Claire Villars-Lurton, the estate has been extensively modernised and converted to biodynamic farming, clearly increasing the wines’ precision and freshness. Haut-Bages Libéral today stands for powerful yet finely balanced crus with a distinctive signature and excellent ageing potential.

Origin in Focus

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the world’s most renowned wine regions – a name that has stood for elegance, diversity and ageing potential for centuries. Gravel, clay and limestone soils alternate, allowing fine nuances in the wines that reflect both terroir and craftsmanship.

Bordeaux is typically known for blends in which grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc work together harmoniously.

Stylistically, red Bordeaux wines are defined by a balance of fruit, structure and freshness. The white wines – usually made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and sometimes Muscadelle – range from crisp and citrus-driven to creamy and complex.
