winegut Burggarten

Weingut Burggarten is one of the defining family estates of the Ahr and is now run in the fourth generation by the brothers Paul, Heiko and Andreas Schäfer. Across around 18 hectares, spread over top sites such as Heimersheim, Walporzheim and Bad Neuenahr, the estate produces characterful Burgundy varieties that make the region’s mix of slate, greywacke and volcanic rock tangible in every glass.

Since joining the VDP, Burggarten has stood for uncompromising quality: careful vineyard management, low yields, precise hand harvesting and cellar work that puts elegance before volume. The result is wine that interprets the typicity of the Ahr in a modern way – fine, mineral, deep and always with a clear, distinctive signature.

Burggarten combines tradition and craftsmanship with a fresh, contemporary style and is now one of the region’s most exciting producers.

Origin in Focus

Ahr

The Ahr is one of Germany’s smallest and northernmost wine regions, nestled in a narrow river valley with steep slate and volcanic rock slopes. Despite its cool climate, it is regarded as a red-wine paradise: Pinot Noir in particular produces elegant, finely structured wines with cool cherry fruit, herbal spice and mineral tension. Frühburgunder, a rare early-ripening Pinot variant, also plays an important role and produces velvety, spicy wines.
