Expertise of Collectors Wine World
"At Collectors Wine World, we have developed a concept together with our advisory board, which includes Markus Del Monego (World Sommelier Champion 1998, Master of Wine, and second-best wine critic in the world) and Carl-Johann Tesdorpf (whose family wine business existed from 1678 to 2019). Since then, we at Collectors Wine World have been able to make 'wine as an investment' accessible to our customers and share our passion for wine with them."
What makes wine a successful investment?
Investments in wine, particularly Bordeaux, differ fundamentally from traditional asset classes: I acquire a product that generally improves over time and that I can sell, keep, or enjoy. In the latter case, the empty bottle usually has additional emotional value.
From a handling perspective, investing in wine is straightforward and comparable to trading financial products, provided you approach the right partner. In terms of return potential, wine investments fall somewhere between bonds and stocks. Prices of top wines can more than double, but there are also times when you achieve little to no return. Regarding risk, especially that of total loss, wine investments are manageable; top wines rarely fall below their purchase price, and the alternative pleasure return is often priceless, especially when you share these wines with your family and good friends.
The biggest challenges and hurdles to investing in wine are the following:
- First: Very few investors have an in-depth understanding of which wines can even be considered a viable investment. For this, you need professional advice from experienced wine experts.
- Second: Investors usually lack access to wines in appropriate quantities. We are not talking about buying just one bottle here. Since the 2014 vintage, with over 100,000 bottles, we possess one of the largest collections of Bordeaux wines and accordingly have access to so-called allocations, i.e., the assignments of Bordeaux wines. This is the basic prerequisite for a wine investment: no wine without allocations.
- Third: Without seamless provenance and perfect storage, you will not achieve top prices. All our wines for investment come directly from the cellars of the châteaux and have been delivered chilled to our central warehouse. There they are stored at 14 degrees Celsius and 65 percent humidity, monitored and checked every minute. We can attest to this; this form of storage makes a huge difference for wines that can be stored for over 50 years.
- Fourth: You have to trust a partner! Because this partner must provide optimal and fair advice, be able to procure the wines, guarantee their authenticity, ensure perfect storage, and have ideas and concepts for how and when to sell wines again.

What is a wine subscription?
Purchasing wines during the bottling phase, i.e., before their official market launch, is often referred to as "wine en primeur" or "wine subscription."
WHY BUY EN PRIMEUR?
- Pre-sale: You have the opportunity to buy wines of a specific vintage even before they are bottled and officially offered for sale.
- Price advantage: Wineries usually offer lower prices during the en primeur phase. This can be an opportunity for you to acquire wine at a reduced price before prices increase once the wine hits the market.
- Limited availability: As wineries produce a limited quantity of wine, availability during the en primeur phase may be restricted. Take advantage of the opportunity to secure specific quantities of the wine.
- Storage: After your purchase during the en primeur phase, the winery stores the wine in its cellars until it is ready for collection or shipment. This allows for optimal maturation of the wine.
- Delivery: Once the wine is mature, it will be delivered to you or can be collected by you.
- Investment aspect: Use wine subscriptions not only for personal enjoyment but also as an investment, as some wines can increase in value over time.
