The wines of Château Pontet-Canet
The Grand Vin of Château Pontet-Canet is aged 50% in new oak, 15% in seasoned oak and 35% in concrete vats.
Typical aromas include cassis, black cherry, blackberry and plum, complemented by violet, graphite, cedar, tobacco and fine spices. With age, complex nuances of leather, truffle and forest floor develop.
A defining feature is the combination of concentration and vitality. Despite their density, the wines possess remarkable freshness and an almost weightless elegance that many tasters attribute to the estate's biodynamic practices.
Alongside the Grand Vin, the château produces the relatively rare second wine “Les Hauts de Pontet-Canet” (around 5% of total production), which reflects the house style in a form that is accessible earlier.
Today, the wines of Château Pontet-Canet represent a successful combination of tradition and innovation and rank among the most exciting interpretations of great Pauillac wine.
