Red wines from Ribera del Duero

Red wines from Ribera del Duero are among the most powerful in Spain: full-bodied, concentrated, yet often surprisingly elegant. The region is located high on the Castilian plateau – hot days and cool nights ensure ripe fruit with a fresh structure. The main grape variety is Tempranillo (locally often called Tinto Fino), frequently supplemented by small proportions of other varieties.

Stylistically, you'll usually find dark berries, plum, cocoa, spices, and – depending on the aging – subtle roasted aromas from barrique. Good Ribera del Duero wines combine power and depth with clean tannins and a long finish, and they age exceptionally well. Perfect with steak, lamb, BBQ, and hearty stews.
