Extremely concentrated and balanced, also noticeable is a short-term, intensive release of CO² immediately after opening. The bottle should be opened at least half an hour, preferably a whole hour, before tasting rather than decanting. The original primary aromas of star fruit, pineapple, orange zest, boscop, papaya and elderberry now take a back seat so that the secondary and tertiary aromas come into their own. Now yeast plait, black truffle and a delicate yet deep herbal note underlined by subtle wood notes, slightly smoky as well as a hint of petrol, viscous and the expressive slate minerality typical of the Doctor as saltiness come to the fore. The wine seems much fresher and tighter than the normal version and develops more and more intensely the longer you smell it and swirl the glass.

The wine-growing tradition of the Mosel winery Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Burggraef can be traced back over 375 years. For generations, the name Thanisch has stood for luxurious white wines and sublime Riesling wines from Germany's most precious white wine location, the Berncasteler Doctor.

There is a centuries-old story surrounding the special features of Doctor's wine: The Elector of Trier, who was terminally ill, announced that anyone who could bring him a cure for his fever would be richly rewarded. The Elector's grave seemed certain, as no doctor could help him, when a nobleman appeared and handed him a cup of his golden wine. Days later, the fever subsided. The prince got up and was cured.

When asked what riches the nobleman could be rewarded with, he simply asked that his wine, which only grows on the mountains of Bernkastel, should be awarded the title of doctor, because this was the true doctor. The prince agreed and had the noble medicine issued with a doctor's certificate with all the seals. The electoral name has always ennobled the vineyard: "Berncasteler Doctor"

Today, estate manager Maximilian Feger manages the 16-hectare vineyard in this special location. Using his knowledge and building on this long tradition, he creates top-class Moselle wines.
